G-BVYX is an Avid Speedwing Mk4, built in 1996, presently with 210 hours on the airframe and 418 hours on its Jabiru 2200 engine. It is a Group A aircraft and has a permit until February 2014. The fuselage and wings were re-covered in Polyfibre in March 2012.
The engine is serial number 2240, meaning it is equipped with the more desirable hydraulic lifters. It had a new stator, electric fuel pump and fuel lines 10 hours ago. The heads were zero-timed by ST Aviation at 273 hours.
During my ownership I have fitted a Trig TT-21 Mode-S transponder, SIRS compass, Mendelssohn intercom and Ray Allen electric trim. There is a spare unused Newton prop included in the sale.
Being a‘Speedwing’ model, YX is faster than a standard Avid Flyer or Kitfox. It cruises at 87mph on just 11.5 litres an hour. Tank capacity is 60 litres. VNE is 125mph and stall is 30-35mph depending on configuration.
Folding wings make for cheap hangarage, or tow it home on its own trailer, also include in the sale.
The Avid is a simple, economical aircraft that will keep your handling skills sharp and reward you with some of the most enjoyable flying of your life. It is very similar to the currently-available EuroFox, at only a fraction of the price.
I have flown YX as far as La Rochelle, Limerick, and most recently to the Isle of Man TT races, two-up with camping gear (there's a decent baggage area behind the seats). It has been a perfect aeroplane for me, and I would love to see it go to a good home.
